The world-famous Glacier Express covers 300 km across the Swiss Alps. It's a full day of magnificent views between Zermatt and St. Moritz. The Glacier Express is a direct train from Zermatt to St. Moritz. The train is also referred to as the 'slowest express train in the world': the journey takes about 8 hours. There is a good reason for this slow pace: the train squeezes its way through the Alps, through narrow valleys, tight curves, 91 tunnels, and across 291 bridges.

Arrive at St. Moritz after a full day (8-hours scenic rail journey, proceed to your hotel and check-in. Rest eve is at leisure to explore the Ski town of St. Moritz.

The Bernina Express route, perhaps the most dramatic journey in Switzerland, is an impressive piece of railway engineering: the train reaches an altitude of 2253 m, even higher than the Glacier Express, and without the help of a cogwheel track. It requires lots of spiral loops, 55 tunnels and 196 bridges to accomplish this. The landscape varies greatly, from high alpine scenery on the Bernina Pass to Mediterranean scenery in the Poschiavo valley to Tirano. There is a connecting Bernina Express bus from Tirano to Lugano, which adds another 3 hours to the journey.

Upon arrival at Lugano, the day is free at leisure to explore the lakeside. You can enjoy a lake cruise with your Swiss Pass.

The famous Gotthard train line is a wonderful piece of railway engineering with many spiral loops, bridges, and tunnels. The journey happens between Lugano and Lucerne in part rail and part cruise on Lake Lucerne.

Upon arrival at Lucerne, you have a day free to explore the scenic Kapelle Bruke Bridge and Lion Monument.

Overnight in Lucerne
